Obituary of Antoinette R. Spina

Antoinette (Toni) Spina, 87, of Monroe Township passed to be with Christ on May 22, 2014. She was born in Bayonne, New Jersey to the late Dominick and Teresa Baresi. Antoinette was a proud graduate of Bayonne High School. Her children often heard her singing the Bayonne high fight song when they were growing up. She married the late Anthony Spina in 1950. Toni and Tony were married 45 years. They lived in Jersey City where they raised their four children. In 1981, they moved to Edison, New Jersey. Antoinette worked as a secretary in New York before she was married and returned to the workforce in that capacity in the early 1960’s. She retired not long after they moved to Edison. Toni was very active in serving the churches she attended in Jersey City and Edison. She served in multiple capacities and was once Treasurer of the Rosary Society at Our Lady of Victories Church in Jersey City. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Being an only child, she cherished her family and delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was proud of all of them and delighted in all aspects of their lives. Antoinette is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Cyndi Spina, Winter Haven, Florida, Mark and Angela Spina, South Brunswick, and Matthew and Barbara Spina, Levittown, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Mary Ellen Spina, Bayonne; seven grandchildren, Melissa, Thomas, Douglas, Danielle, Dionna, Anthony and Joseph; and five great grandchildren, Patrick, Thomas, Jr., Guilianna, Madison, and Victoria. Relatives and friends may call at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, on Sunday, June 1, 2014 from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday June 2, 2014 at 9:30 A.M. at the Nativity of Our Lord R.C. Church, 185 Applegarth Road, Monroe, NJ 08831. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
