Obituary of Richard F. Gregory

Richard F. Gregory, 90, of Georgetown, TX died May 27, 2014 in Georgetown. Mr. Gregory was born in Worcester, MA and raised in New Rochelle, NY. He had resided in Pittsburgh, PA, Oakmont, PA, and Freehold. Mr. Gregory was in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1936 he posed for Norman Rockwell for the Heritage Press edition of Tom Sawyer. From 1953 to 1989 he was an English teacher at Shady Side Academy, Fox Chapel, PA. He was the varsity tennis coach and very active with the ice hockey program even long after his retirement. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth C. Gregory in 1997. He is survived by a daughter, Christine Gregory, Freehold; a son, Donald P. Gregory, Georgetown; and two grandsons, Sean and Kevin. A memorial gathering will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday, August 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Monmouth County SPCA, Eatontown or the Freehold Borough Public Library.
