Obituary of Albert C. Lukowicz

Albert C. Lukowicz, 85, of Millstone Township died Monday, July 21, 2014 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. A 1946 graduate of Trenton Central High School, he began working for the State of New Jersey that year, first as a clerk in the Department of Health, and then as a budget examiner in the state Department of Treasury. While working during the day, he attended Rider College at night, graduating with an associate’s degree in accounting in 1953. He soon joined the state Department of Motor Vehicles in the accounting and budgeting departments, eventually becoming an assistant director of administration before retiring in 1988. “His parents were Polish immigrants and instilled a real strong work ethic that carried through to him,” said Alan Lukowicz, his son and managing editor of The Times of Trenton. “He always instilled the value of hard work in us and to make sure things got done the right way.” Mr. Lukowicz was a sergeant in the National Guard during the Korean War and Past Faithful Navigator of Msgr. Kivelitz General Assembly, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and Past Grand Knight of the Prince of Peace Council No. 5903, Knights of Columbus, also serving as a trustee for Our Lady of Mercy Church in Englishtown. He was a charter member, treasurer and president of the New Jersey Law and Public Safety Credit Union and was involved in government in Millstone Township, where he moved in the 1960s, serving as township treasurer, custodian of school monies for the board of education and recycling coordinator. Mr. Lukowicz also served on the township’s Veterans Council. “He was a good guy, a hardworking guy,” Alan Lukowicz said. “He put a lot of time into whatever he was doing and saw projects through to the end.” Mr. Lukowicz is predeceased by Dorothy, his wife of 50 years, who died in 2006. He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Mozgai of Edison, his son Alan and his wife Rita of Yardville, his son Ronald and his wife Susan of East Brunswick, and his daughter Lisa Maxfield of Freehold. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, a brother Adolph of Hamilton and several nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 58 Main St., Englishtown.
