Obituary of Carol Ann Eyres
Carol Ann (Hedenburg) Eyres, 77, of Colts Neck, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 6. Carol was born in Irvington, NJ, the daughter of George and Ruth Hedenburg. The "little blonde girl" grew up on Columbia Avenue in Newark and attended Alexander Street School, Westside High School and Bloomfield College. She was a true "Jersey Girl" and was proud of it, having lived all of her life in New Jersey.
Carol met the love of her life, Bill Eyres, at a high school graduation party. They married and started a family while Bill attended Seton Hall University. In 1961, they moved to Little Silver and settled in Colts Neck in 1966.
Carol was the quintessential stay at home mom extraordinaire. She immersed herself in the community, especially where it involved her children. She was a founding board member of the Colts Neck Sports Foundation, a softball coach and volunteered at Red Bank Catholic High School, the Colts Neck Fair and Colts Neck Senior Citizens. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 30 years.
Carol never hesitated to reach out to those who needed a little love and kindness. She hosted a Fresh Air Fund camper for a few summers and has stayed in touch with him ever since. When a Vietnamese family moved to town after the airlift, Carol was on their doorstep, delivering food, clothing and friendship. When she discovered an elderly person in town living alone and in need, she made sure he had groceries and checked on him. Carol lived by the Golden Rule "Do unto others" and set the bar high for her children. She was the "glue" for her family, always promoting forgiveness and acceptance.
Her family, her friends and the Seton Hall Pirates were her passion and delight. She was an avid Seton Hall basketball fan and season ticket holder since 1954. She became a fan of whatever sport her children and grandchildren participated in and spent many hours in the stands cheering for them.
It was a life well lived by a woman who loved and was well loved,
Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Bill Eyres, her children, Maureen (Michael) Staub, Ruth (Newt) Hausmann, Bill (Erica) Eyres, Kevin (Nannette) Eyres, her nine grandchildren, Tim and Dan Staub, Bud (Katie) Hausmann, Bill (Jen) Hausmann, Caitlin (Jeff) Gavaras, Bill, Bob and Brittany Eyres, and Allison Eyres, her four great grandchildren, Madison, Brianna and Tyler Hausmann and Jeffrey Gavaras, her sister, Linda (Tom) Daly, her sister-in-law, Janet Quinn, several nieces and nephews and her "TC" girlfriends since kindergarten, Ruthie, Joan, Emmie, Ethel and Marlene.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, George and Ruth Hedenburg and her brother, George Hedenburg, Jr.
