Obituary of Major Lofland
Major “Jack” Lofland, 94, of Freehold died on Sunday, June 12, 2016 surrounded by his family at home. He was born in Accomack County, Virginia and had resided in Freehold for the past 78 years,
He was a chauffeur at the John L. Montgomery Care Center, Freehold where he was employed for 50 years before his retirement in 1993.
He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Freehold where he was baptized in 2003. He served as an usher for the church.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ada Bell Burke Lofland, in 1963 and his second wife, Ruby Holiness Lofland, in 2015.
He was also predeceased by 11 siblings, Josephine, Mary, Olamae, Geneva, Mildred, Mabel, Will, Odell, John, Sylvanus, and Southey.
Surviving are his children, Mildred Edwards, Marvin Lofland, Linda Henderson and husband Donnie, and Nathaniel Lofland and wife Evelyn; a brother, Leroy Lofland; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Veronica Burke; a brother-in-law, George Burke, Sr.; and a special great niece Sara (Ann) Lofland and Ray.
The viewing will be held at the New Hope Baptist Church, 28 First Street, Freehold on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the church at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
