Obituary of Stephen A. Griffith
Stephen A. Griffith, 79, of Freehold Township passed away peacefully on September 30, 2014. Steve was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He graduated from St. John’s University. He worked at Lincoln Brokerage in Brooklyn, N.Y. for 44 years before retiring in 2010. During his retirement he devoted his time serving at the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church soup kitchen. Steve and his wife Barbara and daughters moved to Freehold in 1973 where they were communicants of St. Robert Bellarmine R.C. Church. Steve was a member of the Freehold Township Woodpecker Softball Team for many years; know to his teammates as Flash.
Stephen’s greatest pleasure was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Steve was predeceased by his wife Barbara and his brother Tom.
Steve is survived by his two sisters, Margaret McKeown Donohue of Babylon, N.Y. and Regina Shanahan, Queens, N.Y.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Dave Kropa, Freehold, Beth and Doug Ramsey, Maryland, Joan and Eric Tell, Denville, and Susan and Tim O’Donnell, Freehold. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, Kyle Ramsey and wife Joanna, Alison Taylor and her husband Dane, Stephen Kropa, John Kropa, Ryan Ramsey, Daniel Kropa, Timmy O’Donnell, Katharine Tell, Sean O’Donnell and Andrew Tell.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine R. C. Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the James Coman Foundation, c/o Nancy Coman, 24 Hall Road, Freehold, NJ 07728.
