Obituary of Janet B. Greene
Janet B. Greene, 91 of Freehold Township died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and resided in New York City before retiring to Covered Bridge in Manalapan Township and then to Applewood Estates in Freehold.
She was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the Curtis Institute of Music. She had a successful musical career singing in various opera companies and touring throughout Europe.
She was a soloist in the Hebrew Tabernacle of Washington Heights, NY, where she met her husband, Edgar. She was as a member of numerous choirs in recent years including First Baptist Church, Applewood Chorus and the Covered Bridge Chorale.
Janet was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Freehold, serving in various leadership roles as a Deacon, Trustee, and in many other ways.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar.
She is survived by her nephew, Robert Harrison Burris and grandsons, Shawn and Jamie Greene, and many dear friends.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 81 West Main Street, Freehold on Monday at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Abiding Memorial Fund of the First Baptist Church of Freehold.
