Obituary of Paul Lee Stevens

Paul Lee Stevens Jr., age 60, passed away suddenly on December 8, 2014 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick Twp surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth and father of Paul Lee III. He was born in Passaic, NJ and lived in Freehold Township before moving to Forked River 30 years ago. Paul served in the US Army as an MP stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he attended the College of New Jersey where he earned a degree in criminal justice. He retired in 2003 as a detective with the Freehold Township Police Department after 25 years of service. He was a past member of the Beachwood Yacht Club where he spent many hours watching his son learn to sail and followed him through his high school and college sailing career attending all his regattas, no matter where they were held. Paul loved spending time in his boat whether it was fishing or just going for a ride with his best friend Jib who was always at his side. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed one. He was predeceased by his mother, Dolores Del Peschio, his stepfather John Del Peschio, his father Paul L. Stevens and his brother Mark. Along with his wife and son, he is survived by his Mother-in-law, Elizabeth Synkowski, Sisters and brother-in law, Susan Stites, Carol and Paul Conover, and John Synkowski, as well as his nieces and nephews and countless friends. He will be sorely missed by his little buddy and great nephew Jacob. “Don’t sweat the small ‘stuff’, and it’s all small.” These were the words Paul always told his son whenever things were tough. Now when things are toughest for the ones he left behind, it’s important to remember his words. Visitation will take place at Saint Rose of Lima Chapel from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday with a wake service at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, December 13 at 10:00AM at St Rose of Lima Church. Interment will be held privately. Donations in his memory may be made to Austism Speaks, 1060 State Road, 2nd Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540 or the St. Rose of Lima Building Fund, 16 McLean Street, Freehold, NJ 07728.
