Obituary of Carmen Ana Guerra de Cancel

Carmen Ana Guerra de Cancel was born to Toribio Guerra & Amelia Quinones on May 15, 1923 in Santurce Puerto Rico. She was a graduate of Centro High School, Santurce PR. Arriving in New York in her late teens, she was self-taught in English language skills. She married in 1949 and had three daughters. Carmen, Evelyn and Darlene. Carmen held many jobs in her early years, she also worked at Nappee Smith for 25 years as well as being a home aide until she landed her dream job at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch where she worked her way up from central supply aide to a Diagnostic Radiology Technician. After retiring at age 70 from her dream job, she spent over 15 years as a Pioneer Servant with the Jehovah’s Witnesses. She never stopped her desire to learn and aced all computer classes she attended. She could play her beloved Solitaire and mind games for hours. She loved Matlock, Murder She Wrote, Heat of the Night and endless Jeopardy battles with her daughters. She was also recognized as a coupon queen and personally knew all the names of the employees at the local Shoprite. She took enormous pride in her flower and vegetable gardens and always shared the fruits of her labor. She was an old-fashioned lady who will be missed dearly by not only family but the multiple lives she touched along the way. She is predeceased by one great-grandson and her daughter Evelyn. Carmen leaves behind daughters Carmen Cancel Seaman and Darlene Cancel along with eight grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
