Obituary of Helen E. Bennett

Helen E. Bennett, 101, of Freehold Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2022. Helen was born on September 16, 1921 to John and Helen Cyczewski in Trenton, NJ. One of her first jobs was working in the war effort during WW II as one of the patriotic members of the “Rosie the Riveter” brigade in Trenton, in the 1940’s. Thereafter, she moved to Colts Neck where she met her future husband, John J. Bennett (Pete), when he returned home from his military service in Europe. Helen and John went on to have four sons, Robert D., Ronald J., Jeffrey P. and Scott E. Bennett. Helen and John owned and operated the Battle Grounds Inn in Colts Neck from the late 1940’s until they sold it in 1950’s and purchased the Country Inn in Freehold Township, where the family moved. They operated the Country Inn as a bar and restaurant until the early 1960’s. She went on to work at the 3M and the American Vitamin Companies in Freehold for many years, before retiring in the 1990’s. Helen was predeceased by her husband, John, her son, Robert, her brother, Edmund Cyczewski, and her daughter-in-law, Valerie M. Bibby Bennett. She also had three additional siblings that passed before her birth due to the “Spanish Flu Epidemic” of 1917-1918, John, Henry and Martha. She is survived by her sons, Ronald, Jeffrey and Scott, Jeffrey’s wife, Janet, their children, Megan and Ryan, and Scott’s daughter, Cassiana Ellerman. A service will be held by the Higgins Memorial Home at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM. She will be interred there with her husband, John. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
