Dear Arlene and Family,
As you know, dear Arlene, I have known John since he began working at the Monmouth County Office on Aging. He was a wonderful mentor who quickly became a dear friend. I learned so much from him about advocating for our clients, networking, seeking funding, and jumping in feet first to get whatever funding and services were available. He was never afraid to try something new as long as it was of benefit to the people we served. He was unselfish and his energy and sincerity were inspiring.
As time went on, and we became friends, I was always so impressed with and awed by how very much his family meant to him. He always spoke so lovingly about you. Family meant everything to John and his love for all of you was very evident as his face glowed whenever he spoke about any of you, which was often.
I have missed John and think about him so often. He taught so many of us about what mattered in life and his devotion to his family and his work was inspiring.
My heart is with you as you grieve. I wish all of you strength and comfort from happy memories of your lives together.

I first met John in the spring of 1998 as I was at the end of a thirty-two year career that included producing TV programming for a number of cable access TV channels in the area. In fact, I think he was the last guest to appear on the show. It only took a few minutes to realize what an intelligent and caring individual he was. At the conclusion of the taping session he extended an invitation to set up a TV program at SCAN which led to a long friendship and an opportunity to help him further his work. I am eternally grateful for the time spent working with John and know that he made a positive difference to the world we live in.
