Obituary of David C Carswell
David C. “Scotty” Carswell, 70, of Jackson Township died Monday, December 22, 2014 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in New Brunswick and had resided in Freehold and MillstoneTownship before moving to Jackson Township.
He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1454, Freehold and a charter member and charter Exalted Ruler of Millstone Lodge No. 2613. He was named Elk of the Year at both lodges. He was a Past District Deputy and a Past Vice President and member of the Elk of the Year of the South Central District. He was a master float builder and marched in many Elks parades.
He was a harness horse owner and met at the “oval office” where he served as president. He attended the Little Brown Jug for many years.
He enjoyed cruises, traveling and casinos.
He was a “Jack of all Trades” for Jackson Emporium commonly known as Glory’s Market in Jackson.
He and his brother-in-law, Roger MacGillis, who were known as the Bologna Brothers, were co-owners of Sandwich Man, Belmar.
He was the “guru” of several Freehold High School Class Reunions.
He loved life and was happy for each day he was here. He wanted all of us to live life each day to its fullest.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Applegate Carswell; a daughter, Tiffany Marie Carswell; and a brother, John Carswell.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years and his private “Nurse Ratchett”, Deborah Mackevich Carswell; two sons, John and Scott; a sister, Mary Cusick; his nieces and nephews, Kristine Holley, Nadine Childs, Madison Misuro, and Alaine, David and Derick Cusick; his grandnieces and nephews, Mason, Chandler, Ryland, Jake, Cailin, and Shane; and his sisters-in-law, Patty MacGillis and husband Roger and Laurie Misuro and husband Bobby.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. B.P.O. E. services will be held on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
