Obituary of Geraldine Sutphen-Hazell
Geraldine Sutphen-Hazell, 89, of Freehold passed away at home on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. She was born in Montclair and had resided in Freehold for over 58 years.
She was an administrative assistant to the Civil Division at the Monmouth County Court House, Freehold.
Missy was a graduate of LaSalle College, Newton, Massachusetts.
She was an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold and was recognized by the Bishop for over 50 years of service.
She was a former Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader; a member of the Christian Brothers Academy Mothers Club; and enjoyed travelling to Europe and the Caribbean with her late husbands.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Donald Frederick Sutphen, in 1996, her second husband, Norman C. Hazell in 2018, her daughter-in-law, Maureen Sutphen, in 2011, a grandson, Peter Ten Eyck Sutphen, in 1987, and a niece, Lynn Paulmier Thorsen, in 1996.
Surviving are a son, Stephen M. Sutphen; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Sutphen; her grandchildren, Stephen M. Sutphen, II and wife Alexis, Colleen Brittany Sutphen, Christopher Patrick Sutphen, and Reagan Sutphen Patino; her great grandchildren, Olivia Maureen Sutphen and Mya Baker-Sutphen; two nephews, Bill and Lee Paulmier; a grandniece, Holli Thorsen-Haig; her stepchildren, Gregory, Christopher, and Eric Hazell and Patricia DePamphillis; and numerous step grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services with Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold on Saturday at 11 a.m. Memorial donations to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 33 Throckmorton Street, Freehold, NJ 07728 would be appreciated.
