Obituary of Francis X. Slade
Francis X. Slade, 95 of Marlboro Township passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at home. Born in Baltimore, Maryland he was raised in Staunton, Virginia, and lived in Brooklyn, New York before moving to Marlboro Township in 1969.
Mr. Slade was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana, attended Catholic University of Louvain, Louvain, Belgium, and received his Master’s degree from Catholic University, Washington, D.C.
He was a Professor and Head of the Philosophy Department of St. Francis College, Brooklyn, New York for over 40 years, retiring 25 years ago.
He was predeceased by his daughters, Allison Slade Burchett in 1998 and Elizabeth Slade Vimbor in 2019.
Surviving are his wife, Antonine Ellert Slade; his son, Edward Walsh, Manhattan, New York; his daughter, Mary Slade Mortellite and her husband, Alan, Manalapan; his son-in-law, Stuart Burchett, Woodbridge, Virginia; four grandchildren, Robert Jones, III and his wife Meghan, Amy Burchett Gaither and her husband Mike, Alan Burchett and his wife Jennifer, and Bradford Burchett; and four great grandchildren, Piper and R.J. Jones and Jeremiah and Rayanna Burchett; his niece, Mary Catherine Fitzgerald, Waynesboro, Virginia; and his nephew, Eric Ellert, Brooklyn, New York.
Visitation will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Gabriel’s Historic Church, 549 Route 522, Marlboro Township. Burial will follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery.
