Obituary of Charles Brooks
Charles Brooks of Manalapan, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, 7/21/2022 in his home surrounded by loved ones. Charlie was born on 1/25/1963 in Montclair, NJ to Phyllis and Frank Brooks. He was also the youngest sibling of three boys. Charlie became a part of the Arc of Monmouth family in 1983 where he lived until his passing.
Charlie worked at the Work Opportunity Center in Long Branch, NJ where he was a cleaning crew member while attending Western Monmouth Day program. He loved vacuuming and making sure the trash was taken out. He looked forward to going out with the cleaning crew, especially on days when they would go out for a special lunch.
Charlie was a great artist whose paintings were showcased at the Aberdeen Fire Station, PNC Art Center, and other various places. Many of his pieces were sold during events and some are displayed on the walls of his home. He loved music, especially playing the drums. In addition to the drums, he played on his keyboard, xylophone, and guitar. Charlie loved performing for an audience and was sure to put on a show when “Grease Lightening” was played.
Charlie’s family was the staff and residents of the Arc of Monmouth. He developed close bonds with his peers and staff and looked forward to spending time with them during trips to the Poconos, local beaches, and community dances.
Charlie was loving and affectionate and was sure to tell the ladies how cute they were while giving hugs or kissing their hands. Charlie was a joy to be around and will forever remain in our hearts.
