Obituary of Gerald J. Gibson
Gerald J. Gibson (Jerry), 78, of Fort Myers, FL passed away peacefully on June 28th at Hope Hospice following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He is now enjoying eternal rest with our Lord and the love of his life, Patricia Gillespie Gibson.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Jerry was a graduate of St. Thomas More High School and LaSalle College. Upon graduating from college, Jerry had brief careers in education and sales before landing on his dream job. In 1971, he was appointed a special agent with the United States Secret Service where he enjoyed a distinguished 28-year career with assignments in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C, and Newark, NJ. Jerry was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan who also enjoyed golf, the beach, and reading. He was a longtime communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Freehold.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Jerry is survived by his loving family: daughter Denise Hladun (John), son Gerald, Jr. (Teresa), daughter Michelle McCallion (John) and his grandchildren: John, Patrick, Catherine, and Carolyn, by whom he will be sorely missed.
Friends may call on Wednesday, July 6th from 10am-11am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following. Interment will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, followed by a luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation or a charity of personal choice.
