Obituary of Sheryl Mott
One of Freehold’s most beloved and dedicated community members Sheryl Mott, 63, of Freehold, NJ passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.
Sheryl was brought into the world with her twin sister, Sharon in Neptune Township, NJ on May 28, 1958. She grew up in a large loving family of 9 in a close-knit community on Institute Street in Freehold, a community she loved dearly. She attended Freehold Borough schools and graduated from Freehold High School Class of 1977. From the age of 14, she worked as a camp counselor for the Freehold Borough Recreation Program and became the head counselor for the summer program. She attended Brookdale Community College where she earned a scholarship to study at the University of San Diego. She also attended Ramapo College and Kean University.
Sheryl was a very active and dedicated member of the Freehold community. In 2002, she received the John G. McGackin Renaissance Award for her contributions to Freehold and was recognized by the Monmouth County Court for her service with the Volunteers in Probation Program. Sheryl was recently honored by the Mayor and Council of Freehold Borough with a resolution in her honor on May 6, 2022. She served as a member, and former chairwoman, of the Freehold Borough Recreation Commission. She also worked with the Human Relations Committee and the Hispanic Junior Optimist Club. Sheryl volunteered many hours with the Olde Freehold Day Committee, and the Spooktacular Committee. She was a basketball enthusiast, having played in school and coached several leagues within the YMCA Recreation.
She retired as a Court Attendant at the Monmouth County Court.
Sheryl was predeceased by her parents, William H. and Anne Brown Mott. Surviving Sheryl are her two brothers, Duane Mott and wife Vennis, and Glen Mott; her four sisters, Cynthia Mott, Karen Mott Baldwin and husband Marion, Michelle Key, and her twin and caregiver Sharon Mott; her nephews and niece, Tyrone Mabson (Donielle), Rahsheen Mott, Whitney Baldwin Powell (Bobby), and Tyree Mabson; her great nephew and great nieces, Saryiah Mabson, Xavier Viggiano, and Chandler Powell; her special cousins, Claudette Williams, Keith (Maria) and Azuri Brown, and Richard Brown; and a Goddaughter, Carly Conover. Her great niece Tiffany Foy predeceased her. She also leaves to mourn a host of close relatives and loved ones.
A celebration of Sheryl’s life and time of remembrance will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022 with a viewing from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, and service at 7:00pm. Flowers or a memorial donations can be given to the Scleroderma Foundation (https://national.scleroderma.org/).
