Obituary of Wilson Briggs

Wilson Briggs, 80, of Springfield, Mass., departed this life on May 2, 2022, in West Springfield Mass. He was born in Sumner, Mississippi and grew up in Shaw/Clarksdale, Mississippi and later resided in Freehold, New Jersey before relocating to Springfield, Mass. He was self-employed most his adult life and worked as a mason/construction contractor. He was a kind and generous person, always willing to help his family and friends. Wilson was predeceased by his mother, Glide Briggs, father Frank Briggs and oldest son Wilson Briggs Jr., and three sisters Bernice Atkins, Johnny Mae Lida, and Gloria Briggs, and one brother, Frank Briggs Jr. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Dora Briggs, Neptune New Jersey one daughter, Joanne Briggs, West Springfield, Mass., one step-daughter Alice Mae Hopkins, North Carolina, two sons David Briggs, Tinton Falls, New Jersey and Rodney Briggs, Neptune New Jersey, two sisters, Ruth Jackson, Freehold, New Jersey, and Bessie Valentine, Clarksdale, MS, two brothers Dawud Saleem, Farmingdale, New Jersey and Harry Briggs, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, four grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 11:00 to noon. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at noon followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
