Obituary of Albert Clausen Niehaus, Sr.
Albert Clausen Niehaus, Sr., 95, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2022 at Applewood Estates in Freehold, NJ. Albert (Al) was born January 17, 1927 in Teaneck, NJ and lived most of his life in Colts Neck, NJ.
Raised on a farm, Al continued to work the land until retirement age.
In addition to farming, he was a commercial sales representative for Snap On Tools.
Al contributed to his community in numerous ways: a lifetime member and former Chief of the Holmdel Fire Company, an assistant Boy Scout Master, an elder in the Holmdel Reformed Church, and Commodore of the Fort Monmouth Yacht Club. More recently, Al was a member of the Colts Neck Reformed Church.
Al enjoyed gardening and nothing pleased him more than to deliver a bag of fresh vegetables to his family and friends. Other hobbies included boating, bowling and working on jigsaw puzzles. Al had a sly wit and enjoyed making others laugh. There was a twinkle in his blue eyes that we will all miss.
Al was pre-deceased by his parents Ludwig and Edna Niehaus, brother Ludwig Niehaus and sister Edna O’Donnell.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Carol Winters Niehaus; his sister, Claire Kapcin; his children, Albert Niehaus Jr., Jill Niehaus and Peggy Shellock (Ron); and his grandchildren Matthew, Lauren, Kurt, David and Lesley. He took special delight in his 16 great-grandchildren.
Rev. Gene Ryan officiated a private graveside service at Old Tennent Cemetery on April 28, 2022.
Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of the arrangements.
