Obituary of James M. Kane
James M. Kane, 77, of Freehold passed away at home on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. He was born in Marlboro and had resided in Freehold for many years. Jimmy was a man who dearly loved his family, friends, and community.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966 primarily aboard the USS Lindenwold (LSD 6).
He was a lineman for Verizon for 32 years before his retirement.
Jimmy was a life member and past commander of Monmouth Post No. 54, American Legion; a 25-year member of Engine and Hose Company No. 1 of the Freehold Fire Department where he served as company captain and department president; a member of the Freehold Firemen’s Exempt Association; a life member of Freehold Council No. 1672, Knights of Columbus; and a life member of Freehold Post No. 4374, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a longtime member of the Bucktown Buck Club.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan C. Kane in 2009; his parents Francis and Veronica Kane; and his siblings, Stephen Kane, Gary Ferko, Ronald Ferko, Francis “Fritz” Kane and Frances Barbara Kane.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Kathy McCloud Kane; two daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy A. and Scott Somers, New Stanton, Penn., and Sally and Eddie Otero, Puerto Rico, and Kristine O’Donnell and her fiancé Carmine Spinelli, both of Freehold; two brothers, Edward Kane and wife Maura and Michael Kane; two sisters, Ethel Anderson and Ellen Molte and husband John; five grandchildren, Shelby, Jessica, Frank, Cassidy, and Jamie; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Freehold Fire Department Memorial Fund, 49 West Main Street, Freehold, NJ 07728 would be appreciated. American Legion and Fire Department services will be held during the viewing.
