Obituary of Harold T. "Buddy/Bud" Uhrig

Harold "Buddy/Bud" T. Uhrig 2/29/32 to 12/10/21 Buddy was special, one-of-a-kind man and well loved by all. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting Buddy, you left with a hardy laugh and a smile. His quick wit, timing and sense of humor was impeccable! He was the Life of the Party...even if there wasn't a party going on! Everyone always had fond memories of Bud. Buddy was unique just like his birthday. He was a Leap Year baby, born February 29, 1932 to Helen (McDermott) Uhrig and Harold Uhrig in New York City. He lived and went to school in the Bronx. He was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and St. Francis in the Bronx, where he was an usher and lector. He was the President of the Holy Name Society. He became a 3rd Degree Member at the Knights of Columbus in the 1950's and still was an active member until his passing. Buddy relocated his family to Freehold, NJ in 1970. He became a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church. He was active in church activities as an usher and lector. Bud worked in New York City for the Hartford Ins. Co. for 36 years and retired in 1990. After retiring, and spending three years at home with his wife, Kay, he knew he had to get out of the house. So he got a part time job at Sears, which lasted 10 years! All kidding aside, for all of you that knew Bud and Kay, never have we witnessed a true love between 2 people like the love between them. They were inseparable and as they vowed, till death do us part, something that is very rare in our world today, there was nothing he loved more than his wife, Kay. Buddy loved to make the best out of life. He loved to golf, fish, go see the horses, travel, and baseball...especially watching the little League World Series every year with his family. He was a baseball manager for his two son's Freehold Township Little League championship team and later became an umpire for the same league. He loved going up to the Catskill Mountains to fish, swim and enjoying his time with his children. Out of all of his many trips around the world, going to Ireland (many times) and visiting his Irish relatives were his favorite. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. Buddy is survived by his wife of 63 years Kathleen/Kay (Larkin) Uhrig. Children: Helen Petrin, Thomas, Robert, and Kathleen Schriefer and her husband Ernie, and grandson Edward Uhrig. Bud is predeceased by his mother, Helen Uhrig, sister Eileen O'Shea, many cousins on the McDermott side. Buddy has a great family and he loved his family deeply. He loved all of his cousins, nieces, nephews and friends alike. He will be missed immensely. "All The Best!" Until we meet again. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
