Obituary of Agnes T. Naughton
Agnes T. Naughton, 92, a life-long resident of Marlboro Township, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021 at home with her family by her side. She was born and raised on her family’s farm located at the top of Beaver Hill Road in the Pleasant Valley section of Morganville. Agnes attended public schools and graduated from Matawan High School.
Agnes met the love of her life, Boyle Naughton, at St. Gabriel’s Newman Club after her future husband and his family relocated to Marlboro in 1946. The two raised a family of five children.
Agnes was a fulltime homemaker who supported and participated in all her children’s activities. Agnes was deeply faithful and was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church and longtime member of St. Gabriel’s Altar Rosary Society. She participated in two pilgrimages to Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina organized by St. Gabriel’s. She also belonged to the Marlboro Friendship Club, Monmouth Ceili Club, and Strathmore bowling league.
She was the youngest child of John Joseph Compoly and Elizabeth Varga, Hungarians who emigrated to the United States in the early 1900’s.
Agnes was pre-deceased by her loving husband Boyle and her four brothers and five sisters, John, Steven, Joseph, Albert, Rose, Margaret, Elizabeth, Ann, and Irene.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Patricia and Andrew, William, John and Laura, Michael, and Richard and Carolyn. In addition, she was blessed with six grandchildren: John, Liam, Peter, Sean, Cassandra and Samantha. She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Gabriel's R. C. Church, 100 North Main Street, Marlboro on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery. Memorial donations in her name to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
