Obituary of Peter P. Ciappa

Peter P. Ciappa, 67, of Toms River passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Weehawken and had resided in North Plainfield and Millstone Township before moving to Toms River. He was a highly decorated detective in the Jersey City Police Department before his retirement in 1988. He was a former member of the Police Benevolent Association and the Fraternal Order of Police. He and his wife Joan owned and operated the Howell Auto Driving School from 1996 to 2019. Mr. Ciappa was a member of Southwest Florida Law Officers Association and the Moose Lodge and Elk’s Lodge, both of Venice, Florida. He was a former communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Millstone Township Surviving are his wife, Joan Nowicki Ciappa; two daughters, Jessica Mae Corrigan and husband Christopher and Samantha Ciappa and Olivia Kinder; a son, Peter P. Ciappa, II and wife Gina; three sisters, Alexis Mercer, Jenny-Lynn Ciappa, and Joyce Ciappa; a brother, Ralph Ciappa; grandchildren, Calvin and Preston Corrigan and Peter P. Ciappa, III who is due in February; and his beloved Cocker Spaniel, Chloe. A memorial gathering will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, 91 Stillhouse Road, Millstone Township on Monday at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
