The young family moved to Freehold from upstate New York in 1967 and have been active residents and community servants since. Dorothy retired as the Freehold Township High School Attendance Officer after serving 35 years and was known as Hawkeye for her dedication to excellence and number keeping long before computers. Dedicated to her children’s activities, she was their bookkeeper in business ventures, cheered at sporting events, drove the newspaper route, listened to concerts of all kinds, supported a family of volunteer firefighters and was a Boy Scout Den leader which led to her being honored with the Silver Fawn award from Battleground District, Boy Scouts of America. Dorothy was a member of St Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold where through the years she served on the Altar Guild, was a Choir mom, scheduler for nursery, and worked with the Women’s Club on bazaars and receptions. As a 45 plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Molly Pitcher Chapter No. 198, she served as secretary, Worthy Matron, and honored as Grand Representative of South Carolina. Above all she valued the time spent with family in every setting and her legacy of strength and strong character will live on as the family continues to grow with great grandchildren on the way.
