Obituary of Mathilda Serafin

Mathilda Serafin, 94, of Manalapan Township passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Mrs. Serafin was born in Graz, Austria and had resided in Garfield before moving to Manalapan in 1951. Mrs. Serafin was a school bus driver for the Freehold Regional High School District before her retirement. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy R. C. Church, Englishtown. Mrs. Serafin was awarded the Nostrum Ecclesiam Tempus Medal in recognition of her service and dedication to the Church from the Diocese of Trenton in 2007. She was the widow of Robert Serafin who died in 1994. She was also predeceased by a son, Richard Martin Serafin in 1975 and two daughters, Rosemarie Terhune in 2007 and Karen Ann Acostar in 2017. Surviving are a son, Robert Michael Serafin and his wife Leslie; two daughters, Johanna Maria Lachapelle, and Mary Robb and her husband Paul; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Englishtown on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. Memorial donations to St. Thomas More Church/Our Lady of Mercy Church would be appreciated.
