Obituary of Joan P. (nee Gravatt) Saker

Joan P. (nee Gravatt) Saker, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 23, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Brandon, Fla, following a long and hard fought battle with COPD. She was born in Freehold Township on July 31. The oldest of four siblings. She was a Fabulous Birthday Surprise to her mother and the mid wife that delivered her all had the same birthday! Joan also was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold, where she served as a eucharistic minister. Formally of Rumson, Joan volunteered for many charitable organizations most notable was the ARC and their Winter Glow Ball, she was also a member of the Freehold Optimist Club. She enjoyed extensive travelling with her Husband by her side. What brought the biggest smile to her face was Face-Timing with her Grands and Great Grands living from coast to coast. She is predeceased by her husband, Jack E. Saker, Sr. in 2011; a son, Scott in 2010, her parents, Arthur Gravatt, Jr. and Vera (nee Conover) Gravatt; and her brother and sister-in-law Raymond & Nadine Gravatt. She is survived by five children, Linda Lee Saker, Lori Saker-Tanner (Peter), Leslie Weidenfeld (Greg), John E. Saker, Jr. and Leah Saker-Bouton; three sisters, Shirley Kays, Carol Leshko, and Sharon Pinto; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday, September 3 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Masks and social distancing are required during the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Saturday, September 4 at 10:00 a.m. followed by entombment at St. Rose of Lima Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad, 18 Spring Street, Freehold, NJ 07728 would be appreciated.
