Obituary of John G. Vrabel
John G. Vrabel, 74, Millstone Township passed away on August 25, 2021.
John grew up in Metuchen and South Plainfield, NJ. He graduated from Middlesex County Vo-Tech where he studied automotive repair while working for his Uncle Joe at High Hill Garage in Fords, NJ before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force.
During his enlistment, John rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was acting Maintenance Crew Chief in the 60th MAW stationed at Travis AFB. He took a short leave while serving to come home and marry his wife of 44 years, Elaine.
After his discharge from the Air Force, John came back east and joined the Operating Engineers Local 825. He was a plant Foreman at McCormick Sand in South Amboy for several years before his love of cars called him back.
He and Elaine opened Amboy Auto Body in Perth Amboy, then moved on to focus on auto repair opening J&J Automotive in Matawan.
During this time John and Elaine raised two sons Michael and Ryan. John ran J&J Auto for over 30 years before retiring, giving him time to spend traveling with Elaine and enjoying his time with his sons and grandsons.
John is predeceased by his wife Elaine, and survived by his grandsons Zachary and Jonathan, son Michael, and son Ryan and his wife Kara.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Saturday, August 28, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
