Obituary of Gail Marie Cannon
Gail Marie Cannon, 84, of Grasonville, Maryland, formerly of Freehold, passed away at home on Friday, July 16, 2021. She was born in Newark and was a longtime resident of Freehold.
Mrs. Cannon was a graduate of New York University and earned her master’s degree at Rutgers University.
She was a teacher in the Freehold Township Schools from 1983 until her retirement. Prior to that she was a teacher in the Freehold Regional High School District.
Mrs. Cannon was a devoted teacher who fondly kept in contact with many of her former students.
She enjoyed all sports, especially tennis, and the views of the water from her Maryland home.
Mrs. Cannon was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold.
Her husband, Royal Cannon, Jr. died in 2013. Her first husband, Vincent Serencko, died in 1983. She was also predeceased by her parents, Francis and Grace DeShaw and a sister, Sandra Trout.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Mariaelena Serencko; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and David Mound; two brothers, her twin Francis DeShaw and Bruce DeShaw; grandchildren, Alexandra Serencko, Julianna Nikituk and husband Chistopher, and Vincent Serencko and Tyler, Lianna and Wyatt Mound.
The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Friday at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery.
