Obituary of Walter J. Spreen

Walter J. Spreen died at home peacefully on July 10, 2021 with his devoted wife of 53 years Peggy Spreen, his adoring daughter Susan Spreen and loyal Weimaraner, Priscilla in their country home in Marlboro which he dearly loved. Walter and Peggy had been together since she was 14 and he was 17. All she ever wanted has him; as her family would tease and chant, “Walter, Walter, take me to the altar!” Finally when she was 20 and he was 23 they tied the knot and lived happily ever after. She thought he was the handsomest man she had ever seen but came to find that that would be overshadowed by his kind and loving soul. Walter was a laid back, easy going, strong man with the utmost of morals and character. Walter served in the U.S. Navy as a Boatswain Mate on the U.S.S. Carpenter where he learned many tasks, two being sail making and custom covering of heavy equipment. Little did he know how handy these skills would be later in life as he helped his wife Peggy reupholster numerous couches and chairs she found at local flea markets. They were a great team and worked on many projects around the house together; knocking down walls, laying floors, etc. etc. Shortly after they got married, Walter joined the family business which was Taxi Cabs and later Underground Storage Systems. Named after Peggy’s father Tony, Tone Taxi and Tone Tank and Pump, Inc. flourished with Peg’s brother Bob Arcaro and Walter as partners. Bob was really more like a brother to Walter up until the day he passed. Bob would tirelessly drive in from New York to help with anything Walter needed whether it be to mow a lawn, discuss a business issue or surprise with a tasty treat. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Walter Sr. and Agnes nee Dunne and by his sister Eileen Mullin and her spouse Gerard Sr. and their son Gerard Jr., Walter’s loving God Son. Walter is also predeceased by his sister Delores Clemens, survived by her husband Artie Clemens. Surviving are Walter’s cherished nieces and nephews: Kathy, Chris, John, Terence, Ellen, Artie and Billy and their beautiful families. Walter had a strong love for his sisters and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A great blessing he was so grateful for was the loving devotion of his daughter, Susan who was his biggest ally and helper and whom he loved more than anything. Walter’s kind spirit will live on forever but life will never be the same without him. There will be no visitation at this time but rather a celebration of life at a future date
