Obituary of Morton Merkin
Morton “Marty” Merkin, 85, of Monroe Township, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 31, 2015. Marty was born on February 8, 1929 in Bronx, NY to Jacob and Bessie (Levine) Merkin. Marty was a graduate of DeWitt Clinton H.S. He was an Army veteran and proudly served his country. Marty and his wife, Marilyn resided in Perrineville and raised their three children on their poultry farm before moving to Monroe Township in the early 1990’s.
Marty was an active member in the Perrineville Jewish Center congregation, where he regularly attended services and served as president for many years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards with his friends, and watching the New York Yankees win. He was known for his kind and generous spirit and was often heard saying, “It makes me happy to help people.”
He is predeceased by his loving wife, Marilyn, son, Steven and brother- and sister-in-law John Grantier and Henree’ Merkin. He is survived by his son, Joel and his fiancé Karen McPartlin; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Norman Weistuch; siblings, Alvin Merkin, Ardell Laster and her husband Jack, and Audrey Grantier; grandchildren, Jason Merkin and wife Darya, Jennifer (Merkin) Stern and husband Adam, Corey and Jessica Weistuch, a great grandchild Lilah Merkin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many more loved ones.
The funeral will be held at 2:30pm on Tuesday, February 3rd at Beth El-Perrineville Jewish Cemetery, 755 Perrineville Road, Millstone Township, NJ. The family welcomes visitors as they sit Shiva February 3rd-5th from 3pm-8pm at 836B Vail Road, Monroe Township.
