Obituary of Warren Dove Spencer

Warren Dove Spencer, 79, of Freehold passed away at his home on Monday, March 29, 2021. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a graduate of Freehold Regional High School, Class of 1960, U.S. Navy Training Center, Great Lakes, and Monmouth County Police Academy, Sea Girt. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years as a radarman aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was employed at Buck Engineering, Freehold and the New Jersey State Home For Boys as a cottage officer before serving on the Freehold Township Police Department for 15 years retiring with the rank of lieutenant. Warren was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold where he served in the choir, vestry member, and an ordained vocational deacon. His wife of 45 years, Susan Lewis Spencer, died in 2012. He is survived by Frances Hurley; Jennifer DeLellis and husband Steven, their children Dan and wife Elizabeth and Stephanie DeLellis; and Jimmy Hurley and wife Ursula and their children Spencer and Cole Hurley, whom he considered as his family. The Burial Office and Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 33 Throckmorton Street, Freehold on Tuesday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold. Memorial donations to Crossroads at St. Peter’s Church, S.P.C.A., or the Multiple Sclerosis Society would be appreciated.
