For Zoom broadcast, see information at end of the obituary.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Julie Borromeo of Princeton Junction, NJ and longtime resident of Freehold, NJ on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Julie was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Julie was born and grew up in the Philippines where she earned her degree and practiced as a Doctor of Optometry. She then came to the U.S. and started a family with her husband in New York City and later settled in Freehold, NJ. It was in Freehold where she and her family became part of a close-knit Filipino Community all connected by the American Dream.
Julie was a strong, determined and creative woman and our family was blessed to have her as our rock and ray of sunshine. She had a flair for creative arts like ceramics, flower arrangements, interior decorating and admiration for artwork. She however was always the most beautiful canvas knowing how to don a hat and wear a bright scarf to complete an outfit. Never one to shy away from bold jewelry and statement gowns, Julie taught us all to keep an eye open for beauty and the ephemeral ”je ne sais quoi’.
Julie had a passion for travel. She enjoyed many extraordinary journeys around the world including the Great Pyramids of Giza by riding a camel, serenaded on a gondola boat through the water canals of Venice, climbing the ancient steps of the Parthenon, touching the Berlin Wall later capping off with a stein of beer, adoring the manicured gardens along with the intricate patterns of tiles of Alhambra overlooking Granada, captivated by the famous colorful domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral shadowed by the Kremlin on Red Square, strolling down the Champs-Élysées enjoying the exquisite treasures within the famous gardens and museums along the way to admire the grandeur of the wrought iron lattice Eiffel Tower sparkling within the City of Lights. These are just a few but perhaps her most beloved trips were always to the Philippines to relive her carefree days and bask in the sunshine enjoying with her family. However, she always treasured returning to NJ and settling back into life with her beloved family and friends. We are proud that her infectious travel bug has been passed along and honored by her adventurous spirit.
Julie now joins her beloved husband Ponciano Jr. and beloved son Ponciano lll. Surviving are sons Paul, Peter and Patrick; grandsons Noah, Patrick, Michael and Christian; daughters-in-law Michele, Theresa and Lori. A viewing will be held Thursday, March 4th from 4-8pm at Higgins Memorial Home in Freehold. A Mass for Julie will be held on Friday, March 5th at 10am at Co-Cathedral of St. Bellarmine in Freehold. A Memorial Celebration of her life is to be scheduled for a later date.
