Obituary of Eva Frances Gunn Hughes
Eva Frances Gunn Hughes peacefully passed away at her home in Sarasota, FL on Thursday, February 4, 2021. She was 100 years and 10 months old.
Eva was born on March 15, 1920 in Hightstown, NJ to Margaret Frances Blake Gunn and David Frame Gunn of Freehold, NJ. She graduated from Hightstown High School and worked at Trenton State University and Educational Testing Services where she was supervisor of the graduate testing customer service and training division.
Eva was an active member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Ewing, NJ, the Eastern Star.
She also served as the Republican Chairwoman for her district was a census taker in the 1960 US Census.
She is preceded in death by her cherished husband of fifty years, Merle Arthur Hughes. Eva is survived by her four sons and their families: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bruce Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Arthur Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. James Alan Hughes, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. William David Hughes including nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Due to the current national health concern, the family has chosen a private ceremony on February 11, 2021 at the Higgins Memorial Home in Freehold, NJ. Eva will be buried at Maplewood Cemetery in Freehold, NJ alongside her beloved husband.
