Obituary of Phillip R. Harper

Phillip R. Harper, 78, of Jackson Township died Sunday, February 8, 2015 surrounded by his children. Mr. Harper was born in Akron, Ohio. He was employed by NBC in New York City before his retirement in 1998. During his 30-year plus dream career at NBC Cleveland and New York, he held various positions working as a radio and video engineer. He was a proud member of N.A.B.E.T (National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians) locals 42 and 11. After retirement, he enjoyed his time working at Great Adventure, being a member of the Peacock North NBC- Retirees and volunteering at CentraState Hospital where he was recognized with an award for over 2,000 hours of service. He enjoyed spending his time with his loving wife Nancy (deceased) of 51 years, children and grandchildren, traveling, attending baseball games near and far, driving Plymouths, laughing, afternoons at Manasquan, movies, reading mysteries, listening to music and all things train related. He was predeceased by his wife Nancy and parents Reuben and Catherine Harper. Surviving are his two sisters Joanne Roliff and Barbara Rothwell; a son, Jeffrey M. Harper; two daughters and son-in-laws Jennifer A. and Mark Himmelman and Judith L. and E. Aaron Sheffield; and three grandchildren Magdalen E. and Corwin R. Sheffield, and Catherine M. Himmelman. Visiting hours will be held at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday, February 12th from 4:00 to 7:00pm followed by a Memorial Service from 7:00 to 8:00pm. Interment will be at later date. Memorial donations to the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDAParkinson.org) would be appreciated.
