Obituary of Margaret Mendum Mayer
Margaret Mendum Mayer was born on 9-16-1928 in Washington, DC. She died in Whiting, NJ on 1-17-2021 in an assisted living facility. She was 92
She was a librarian in the Monmouth County Library System for 40 years. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an undergraduate and then received a Masters in Library of Science from Rutgers University.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Lancaster and Barbara’s husband, Ron Vance in San Francisco, CA. Her grandson, John Dildine in Sullivan, MO., 2 Great grandchildren: Taylor and Jake Dildine. Other relatives include a stepson, Rob Mayer and his family in Piedmont, SC; a stepdaughter, Sue Mayer Todd and her family in Georgetown, SC. Her other daughter, Margaret (Peggy) predeceased her in 1992.
She was a great woman with a great mind and she never put on airs even though she was in a position of great status in the Monmouth County Library System. She was adored by all who knew her. She collected sand and displayed her sand collection at various conventions. She loved bittersweet dark chocolate. She always said: “If I had my life to live over again I’d live it over a chocolate factory.”
