Obituary of John Donald "Jack" Cottrell

John Donald “Jack” Cottrell died at home on January 16, 2021. He was born on October 22, 1944 in New Brunswick, N.J. He spent his entire life in the Freehold area and was a graduate of Freehold Regional High School, Class of 1963. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He married in 1968 and he and wife Linda raised six children. He had a long career working for JCP&L and retired in 2004. John spent his leisure time hunting, fishing, playing golf, and taking road trips with his wife visiting every state except Hawaii. He was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. John was predeceased by his parents, Richard Cottrell and Muriel Fenton Cottrell; his brothers, Richard and Robert Cottrell; and his grandson, Joseph Eugene Zawaski. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda Irons Cottrell; his brother, Eugene Cottrell and wife Patricia; and his sister, Muriel (Mickey) Ariff and husband Steve; his sisters-in-law, Susan Beale Cottrell and Katherine Hanaway Cottrell; his children, Stephanie Cottrell, Brick, Timothy Cottrell (Amie Goelz Cottrell), Little Egg Harbor, Jessica Langley-Zawaski, (Timothy Zawaski) Howell Township, Joshua Cottrell (Gail Becker Cottrell), Freehold, Eugene Cottrell (Janaina Cardosa Cottrell), Howell Township, and Matthew Cottrell (fiancé Mary Ulatowski), Howell Township; 13 grandchildren, C.J., Anthony, Ava, Isabella, Jackson, Nicholas, Jacob, Michael, Alyssa, Katelyn, Dalton, Conor, and Leandro. Visitation will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Millstone Township.
