Obituary of William F. Stiles
William F. Stiles, 92, of Old Bridge Township died on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was born in Newark and raised in Springfield. He moved to Old Bridge in 1948.
Bill was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Company A, 16th Infantry in Germany in 1951 and 1952.
He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No 5700, Hightstown and American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold, after transferring from American Legion Post No. 434, Englishtown, where he was Bar Chairman for a number of years and a former member of the Gordons Corner Fire Company, Manalapan Township.
A big fan of the New York Jets and New York Yankees, you could always find a Yankee game on the TV during baseball season and a Jets game during football season. He enjoyed watching SVU and reruns of JAG on television. He loved his visits to PA, especially attending the Potatofest in the autumn. Every year in June, he visited close friends in North Carolina with his daughter, and so looked forward to it that he would start to get ready a month in advance. If ever you asked him if he wanted to take a trip, the answer was always YES. Bill would go to his daughter’s every Sunday, and they would go to the local diner so he could have his favorite meal, pot roast.
Before his retirement in 1994, Bill was employed as a fork lift driver at Nestle, Freehold for over 40 years.
Predeceased by his parents, Leroy and Margaret Conner Stiles and a brother, Charles Stiles, he is survived by a daughter, Patricia Stiles; a sister, Mary Samaro; six nieces; two nephews; and many beloved close friends.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Saturday, January 23 from 10 to 11 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Salvation Army or Wounded Warriors Project would be appreciated.
