Obituary of Jeffrey David Kalika

Jeffrey David Kalika, 69, of Boynton Beach, FL, passed away on January 8, 2021. Family and friends can confirm that while Jeff's heart was large and strong enough to carry all of his loved ones, it was unable to withstand a sudden and unexpected heart attack. Jeff was born on July 23, 1951, the first child of Phillip and Muriel Kalika in Brooklyn, NY. Their family was made complete with the birth of his sister Lori, and they lived in several neighborhoods in Brooklyn before settling in Canarsie. After graduating from Canarsie High School, Jeff went on to study accounting and music at Brooklyn College and Lehman College. In 1969, he met Felice Farkas on a blind date and fell quite literally head over heels for her as his knees buckled when he saw her for the first time. They married in 1973 and lived happily together for 25 years until Felice's untimely death from breast cancer in 1998. They had two children together, Paige and Penny, who are doing their best to live up to their parents' exemplary model of a happy marriage with their spouses and children. Jeff remarried in 2003, and he spent many further happy years with Rachelle Nudelman Borochovitz, thereby obtaining an additional four stepchildren and twenty step grandchildren to spoil. Jeff was a man who was defined by his loves: love of family, love of friends, and love of music. He was a devoted family man who dedicated himself to caring for his loved ones. He worked tirelessly to care for Felice during her illness, and then provided the same steadfast care to his mother Muriel during her long decline. He offered the same unquestioning support to any loved one in need, providing a home, a ride, or just a sympathetic ear with no thought of recompense. He maintained the same group of extraordinary friends for over 50 years, and they remained closer than brothers. Jeff worked in many fields over the years, as an accountant, a bread wholesaler, a small business owner, and a realtor, but his true love was always music. He was an extremely talented pianist who could play anything by ear, and he was always delighted to have an audience to entertain. He was especially proud of Circular Motion, a band that he formed with his dear friends, and had very fond memories of winning both Junior and Senior Sing in high school. More recently, he enjoyed spending time with his grandson Ari by teaching him piano. Jeff was predeceased by his beloved wife Felice, his parents, Muriel and Phillip, and his father-in-law, Abraham Farkas. He is survived by his children, Dr. Paige Kalika and Penny Haesloop, their husbands, Leo Sorits and JD Haesloop, his grandchildren, Ari and Eliana Sorits and Eve and Avery Haesloop, his wife, Rachelle Kalika, his sister, Lori Kalika Mahler, his mother-in-law, Rhoda Farkas, and four stepchildren and twenty step grandchildren, all of whom are devastated by his loss. There will be a small graveside funeral service at 10am on Tuesday, January 12th at Congregation Agudath Achim Cemetery (Freehold Jewish Center Cemetery), 164 Rte 33, Freehold, NJ (masks and social distancing required).
