Obituary of Evelyn Hyman
Evelyn Hyman, 88, of Freehold died on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Abramson Center for Jewish Life in North Wales, Pennsylvania after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Freehold for 64 years. A native of Yonkers, N.Y., she graduated from Adelphi College. She moved to Freehold with her husband Jack, a dentist, in 1951. Over many decades, she was a presence in the dental office as a bookkeeper, receptionist and assistant. A licensed teacher, she was one of the founders of one of the area’s first pre-school programs.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and was involved in Cub Scouts and the Freehold Little League in which her children were players and her husband was a coach. Her hobbies included painting, beading and collecting picture postcards. In addition, she was a volunteer in many community activities. She was a member of Congregation Agudath Achim, Freehold. A breast cancer survivor, she organized support groups and served as a counselor to newly diagnosed patients.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, David Hyman and Farah Jimenez of Philadelphia; Mark Hyman and Cecilia Brennecke of Baltimore and William Hyman and Janine Pratt of Elkins Park, Pa.; and four grandchildren, Benjamin, Eli, Maya and Lia.
A funeral service will be held at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Congregation Agudath Achim Cemetery, Freehold.
