Obituary of Margaret Clancy
Margaret Clancy, formerly of Freehold, passed away on New Year’s Day at age 94. She was born on September 17, 1926 in Freehold, New Jersey, and lived there almost her entire life. The daughter of the late Madeline Reichey Clancy and Joseph H. Clancy Jr., Margaret graduated from St. Rose of Lima School and Freehold High School.
She worked at the Abstract Company in Freehold and later served as secretary to the comptroller at Naval Weapons Station Earle, retiring to care for her sister Elizabeth.
After returning to work at the Monmouth County Courthouse, she retired again to care for her brother Edward. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, daily Mass, and travel with family and friends. She made her last of many trips to Disney World at age 91.
Margaret was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church until 2015, when she moved to Virginia to live with her niece Hilarie. She then joined St. Therese Catholic Church in Gloucester, Virginia.
Margaret was preceded in death by her brother Edward Clancy, sister Elizabeth Clancy, sister and brother-in-law Helen Clancy Hicks and Earl Hicks, brother and sister-in-law Joseph Clancy and Mary Halpin Clancy, and niece Colleen Clancy McGackin.
Her memory will be cherished by four generations of nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Margie, Aunt Mag, or Nan. These include Linda Clancy Haley, Karen Clancy Vierling and Jeff Vierling, Jerry McGackin, and Hilarie Hicks. Margaret’s family appreciates the attentive care she received from staff at The Culpeper skilled nursing facility and from Hospice of the Piedmont.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church on January 8 at noon, with entombment at St. Rose of Lima Mausoleum. Please be mindful of COVID safety requirements. Arrangements are by Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity such as Hospice of the Piedmont (675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA, 22911).
