Obituary of Louise Shamagasi Kip

Louise Shamagasi Kip, 91, of Freehold, peacefully passed away at home on Sunday, July 10 after a 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in East Quogue, NY to Western Armenian immigrants who survived the genocidal programs of 1895 & 1915 perpetrated by the Turkish Ottoman Empire. At a young age, her family moved to a farm in Jamesburg, NJ where she was raised and graduated high school. After that, she became a title searcher, took time off to raise her two children and returned to work as a freelancer for Equifax for many years. She was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Freehold where she was married to her beloved husband, John B. Kip, in 1951. In their 58 years of marriage, they did everything together and never spent a night apart aside from his annual Army reunions. Louise had a keen sense of humor, sly wit and a warm, impish smile with twinkling eyes. She faithfully volunteered at her church in many roles and generously, but quietly, helped others with care and support. She was independent, strong-willed, intelligent and hard-working with extraordinary strength and character. She embraced the internet and in recent years discovered Facebook where she loved to lurk and learn. She was predeceased by her husband in 2009 and a son, Lawrence G. Kip, in 1986. Surviving are her dedicated daughter, Luanne S. Kip of Point Pleasant; her faithful sister-in-law and friend, Lois Borden of Freehold; her niece, Ruth Hanna of Freehold and her family; nephews William Hook of Virginia and family and Carl Borden and family of Forked River. There will be a celebration of her life on Sunday, July 24 at 3pm at the First United Methodist Church of Freehold. Interment will be private at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 would be appreciated. Higgins Memorial Home of Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
