Obituary of Mark Andrew Hager
Mark Andrew Hager, 66 of Atlantic Highlands, passed away August 13, 2020 after a long illness. Born in Hoboken, NJ, Mark grew up in Union City and North Bergen prior to his present residence of Atlantic Highlands.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church in Atlantic Highlands.
A stoic man in many ways, Mark is remembered for his quiet demeanor, sense of humor, strong faith in God and love of family. He never missed a family event and reveled in being part of his extended family.
Mark graduated from North Bergen High School in 1972, upon completion of his Bachelor and Master’s Degree at Rutgers University in 1978. He entered U.S. Naval Officer Training in 1979. As a navel career man Mark enjoyed the world travels it offered. He proudly served his county for 25 years, serving in Asia during the Gulf War from 1990 to 1998.
He retired from the Navy with the rank of commander.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Arno Ferdinand Hager and Rosemary Hager (nee Barrett) and brother Raymond.
He leaves behind his three sisters and their families, Claire Peterson of West Caldwell, Patricia and James Ohlandt of West Caldwell and Barbara and Robert Bier of Freehold and many nieces and nephews and their spouses.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 6 pm at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St. Freehold.
