Coolest teacher I ever had would take us out to play kickball everyday. He had a nickname for every kid in the class , I never heard of any student that disliked him

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. During the 80s it was common to hear in my house, "Dad, Jack Mitchell's on the phone" He was a treasured and respected friend of my dad's, and I hope you find comfort in knowing how positively he impacted so many lives. May he rest in peace.

Sincere prayers and heartfelt sympathies on your loss of Jack. My college memories of him are many, but two stand out. One was his passion for the Ladies' Barbershop Quartet and the few rehearsals held at my house. The second was that Jack always seemed to have "lots of irons in the fire" at one time, and they were ALL burning brightly. We also shared a passion for grammar and its correct usage. (My g-sons gifted me with a T-Shirt that states, "I'm quietly correcting your grammar!") Heaven gained another angel, and he will be remembered fondly by many. Barbara Wilkes Delnero

My three boys, Christopher, Gregory And Alex were all lucky enough to have John as their six grade teacher. They really learned a lot from him. We were lucky to have John and Eileen at our home when We had a party for Christopher before he left for the Naval Academy.
One of the most dedicated people that I have ever met, John will be missed. The family will be in my prayers.

Dr. Mitchell was my 6th grade teacher at Cedar Grove Elementary School in 1989, and he was one of the best. All these years later, I still remember that “speech is a fine motor skill” (one of his favorite catchphrases), diagramming sentences, and learning some of the craziest vocabulary words that could dominate any Scrabble game (hemagglutination). He was not overly fond of the new computer that found its way into our classroom but gave us great lessons on World War II better than the Internet could have. As a fellow Army veteran, I’d be proud to have him as a commanding officer. I’ve spent a lot of time in school, working through a bachelors, masters, and most way through a PhD in engineering, and Dr. Mitchell still remains one of my favorite teachers. God speed!

Eileen and family, Eddie and I are truly sorry to hear of Jack’s passing. I had to smile when it was mentioned about Jack’s pride in his lawn. We all know he has the best lawn in the neighborhood. We miss seeing him in the backyard with his music playing. Please know that Jack and your family are in our prayers. We are always here for you please don’t hesitate to call. Love your neighbors, Eddie and Francine Cooper.
