Obituary of George Nimick

George Nimick, 87, of Freehold died on Friday, February 27, 2015 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, with family by his side. He was born in Freehold and was a lifelong resident of the area. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and in the U.S. Merchant Marine Service in 1944. Mr. Nimick was an aircraft mechanic at Maguire Air Force Base, Wrightstown where he was employed for 30 years before his retirement in 1982. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold. He was a life member and Ex-Captain of the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad, a member of American Legion Post No. 54, a life member of Freehold Council No. 1672, Knights of Columbus, and a member of B.P.O.E Lodge No. 1454. George was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Dorothy of 58 years before her passing in 2007; his mother Josephine Nimick; two brothers John Nimick and Edward Nimick; and three sisters, Alberta Kloc, Constance Judd and Josephine Rooney. Surviving are two sons, George E. Nimick and Craig J. Nimick and wife Antoinette; a daughter, Kimberley A. Cook and her husband Thomas Cook; six grandchildren, Casey Nimick, Craig J. Nimick Jr. and his wife Stefanie, Thomas L. Cook, Ryan M. Cook, Adam C. Nimick and Todd M. Cook; 5 great grandchildren, William, Sophia, Giovanni, Lily and Rebecca; and many nieces and nephews. George enjoyed camping with friends and family and was an avid fisherman for many years. But most of all he found happiness and took great pride in participating in every aspect of his grandchildren’s lives. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Freehold First Aid & Emergency Squad or Deborah Hospital would be appreciated.
