Edward Steven LaHaye, What can I say about my younger brother Steve; My earliest memory of Stevie is when he was breastfeeding at home for the first time from the hospital. I have loved him from that day and will never stop loving him. All through our time together in Jersey City. Playing, roller skating, Bike rides and supporting each other, we were always close and he knew that he could always count on me for anything.
We left Jersey City in 1963 and made Freehold our new home. This was the first time we had separate bedrooms and weren’t able to sleep with each other. He used to sneak in my bedroom late at night so we could go to sleep together.
After we both graduated from Freehold Reg. High School, we each found jobs however were still were brothers and were each other’s best friend. We went fishing, bowling, just hanging out and we did many things together.
In 1976 Steven quit working for the New Jersey Transit system as a trackman and came to work with me at Olsen Hassold Inc as one of my top salesmen. We worked together till 1991 when the mismanagement of the company caused the Company to file bankruptcy.
We still continued seeing each other and played numerous rounds of golf with our brother Tom and enjoyed each other’s company we were always best of friends.
There wasn’t anything I wouldn’t do for him or Tom or they would do for me and we all knew it.
In 1999 I left New Jersey and moved to Charlotte North Carolina, but our friendship didn’t stop us from remaining best friends, we would called each other regularly. When ever I came to New Jersey, Steve, Tom and my sister was always one of my first priorities of my visit.
When I got the call Steve was in the Hospital, I called him at the hospital and could tell by his voice that this was serious and he needed me. I started packing to visit him and got the dreaded second call that he passed away. I continued packing to see him one last time with our family and friends.
Stevie will always be with me in my heart and all our memories will never be forgotten. I knew and loved my brother Steven Michael LaHaye all his life and will miss him dearly all the rest of my days. Xoxo
