Obituary of Dr. Fred Jaffe, PhD

Dr. Fred Jaffe, PHD, of Ossining, NY & Freehold, NJ for the past 10 years, died at age 89 on January 17th, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones in Freehold, NJ. The family of Fred mourns the loss of a wonderful husband, father, scientist and friend. Preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Mae Jaffe. He leaves behind three children: Elizabeth Ann Jaffe [NY,NY], Lynn Anne Jaffe Shauger [San Diego, CA], David Lawrence Jaffe(wife Laurie Jaffe)[ Freehold, NJ], four grandchildren: Hannah Mae Jaffe, Jacob Lawrence Jaffe, Emma Rose Jaffe, Kathryn Mary Jaffe, his brother Sanford Jaffe(wife Elaine Jaffe)[Cleveland, OH], nephew Michael Jaffe(wife Laura Jaffe)[Solon, OH], niece Faith Rabin(husband Steven Rabin)[Chicago, IL], and great nephews: Alan Jaffe, Joel Jaffe, and Brandon Rabin. Fred was born, April 5th, 1930, in Cleveland Ohio to Esther and Joseph Jaffe. He graduated valedictorian from East Tech Highschool. Fred attended Case Western Reserve University on a full scholarship and went on to graduate from Cornell University with his PHD in organic Chemistry. Fred was a member of Mensa and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. As a research scientist in organic chemistry he garnered numerous patents while working at Stouffer Chemical Company, which later went on to become Akzo Nobel Chemicals, for well over 20 years. He was an amazingly kind, patient, and brilliant man. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday January 26th, 2020. Family and friends to gather at 11:00 am, services to begin at 12:00 pm by Rabbi Glen Jacobs at Higgins Memorial Home 20 Center St, Freehold, NJ 07728. In lieu of flowers, we welcome donations to a charity of your choice in his honor.
