Obituary of Murray Whitfield

Murray “M.J.” Whitfield, Sr., 76, of Brick Township, formerly of Freehold, died on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Complete Care at Laurelton, Brick.  He was born in Jacksonville, Florida.

He was a well-known mason contractor and owned and operated Murray’s Construction Company, Freehold.

He was a member of the Church of God, Freehold.

He was predeceased by his father, Murray Whitfield, Sr., his mother, Annie Maud Moss, and two brothers, Moses and Charles Moss.

Surviving are his wife, Versa Whitfield; the mother of his children, Carol Merritt; a son, Murray Whitfield, Jr.; five daughters, Pearlina Whitfield, Virginia Whitfield-Romero, Montice Whitfield, Madalyn Alexander, and Tamika Moss; four stepchildren, Kimberly Redding, Demetric Redding, Deborah Redding, Diane Redding; a brother, Alexander Moss; 24 grandchildren; and 31 great grandchildren.

The viewing will be held at the Church of God, 26 Avenue A, Freehold on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to noon.  Funeral services will be held at the church at noon.
