Obituary of Virginia Bennett Weber Ijas
Virginia (Ginny) Bennett Weber Ijas, of Jackson Township died on March 19, 2015 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Jackson. She was born on October 28, 1925 in Jersey City and was raised by an industrious mother, Alma Hendrickson Meierdiercks. Ginny worked in New York City in her early years and became a wife and homemaker upon her marriage to John Harry Weber, her beloved husband of 41 years.
They lived in Freehold and together they raised two children, John and Gail, both now deceased.
Ginny found love a second time in her marriage to widower Andrew Ijas. They celebrated almost 24 years of married life and enjoyed their retirement years in traveling to places abroad, especially Andrew’s homeland of Finland.
Ginny was especially fond of her five grandchildren, John and Barbara Weber Berry’s children, John Weber and Angela Weber Hetrick and husband Brogan, and her daughter Gail and Steve Karger’s children, Harry, Miriam, and Nasia.
Upon her daughter’s passing, Ginny and Andrew were devoted to helping raise Nasia and she spent many happy weekends with her loving grandparents.
In 2011, Ginny and Andrew relocated to Sunrise Assisted Living of Jackson and were able to age with the support of the wonderful staff in this community and two loyal friends, Tom Berry and John Dawes. Ginny is best remembered for her sweet personality and her ability to always say something nice about all whom she encountered. The human kindness she showed to all is her legacy.
Funeral services will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. followed by entombment at Maplewood Chapel Mausoleum, Freehold.
