Obituary of Eleanor Marie Cipo

Eleanor Marie Cipo, (née Kavchak) died peacefully at the Jersey Shore Medical Hospice Center, Neptune, New Jersey, on February 28, 2019. A service is scheduled for Thursday, March 7, beginning at 9:00 at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, New Jersey. This will be followed by an 11:00 mass at Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 91 Stillhouse Road, Millstone Township. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Eleanor’s life. Immediately following mass and internment (the cemetery is almost adjacent to the church), please join us at the Knob Hill Golf Club, Route 33 West, Englishtown, NJ, in honor of Eleanor’s wonderful 92 years. Mom always loved a good party! ‘All are welcome to attend and celebrate Eleanor’s life’. Eleanor was blessed to have lived 92 years among family, friends and pets whom she loved unconditionally. Eleanor is survived by her son and his wife, John and Judy (Allentown, NJ) and her daughter Nancy and her husband Jim (Rumson, NJ). Gigi is also survived by her only granddaughter, Allison Kopp Scott and her husband Gregg Scott (Wyckoff, NJ) and her great-granddaughters Isabella and London. Gigi, as she was fondly known to Izzy and Lolo, will be missed by all. Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband, John S. Cipo and infant daughter, Barbara Jean, and her mother and father, Anna and Frank Kavchak. Born on January 16, 1927 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Eleanor graduated from Woodbridge High School and the Charles E. Gregory School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse. Eleanor and John, high-school sweethearts, married in 1947 and enjoyed many happy years together. After moving to Morgan, New Jersey, Eleanor raised her family and pursued her nursing career. She managed nursing homes and provided skilled, private care with the same level of professionalism and devotion that she applied to all that she did in life. Eleanor thoroughly enjoyed writing, painting, sewing, crocheting and many other hobbies. She was always very happy when she had cats, dogs and horses to care for. She learned to play golf and loved doing so. She also reluctantly learned to ski to keep up with the family on weekends in Vermont and Lake Placid and usually ended up riding the chairlift back to where she got on and the lift crew would stop the lift, so she could get off and go have a hot chocolate! Eleanor loved summer vacations at Lake Hopatcong where she would allow her children to bring along friends and then, without complaint, cook and care for all! Later in life, Eleanor and John would travel the east coast with friends and enjoy extra-long golf weekends. But most of all, Eleanor was absolutely devoted to her family. There was nothing that she wouldn’t do to help make all our lives easier, happier and meaningful. Always leading by example, Eleanor made sure that the values and principles she instilled in our lives served us well in our chosen pursuits. She was loved her deeply and dearly and will be missed by all who were privileged to know her. The family would like to thank the Meridian Hospice Team at the Jersey Shore University Hospital for the loving care and comfort that they provided during Eleanor’s final days. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, NJ is in charge of all arrangements. Condolences can be posted at www.higginsmemorialhome.com.
