Obituary of Walter Kowalsky
Walter R. Kowalsky, 93, of Freehold, NJ passed away on Tuesday, January 22. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and has resided in Freehold since 1966 and was regarded as a very special and giving man.
Walter was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, where he was a Sonar Technician on the USS Roy O. Hale. He owned several Chicken Holiday locations since 1970 and was actively involved in the Freehold community. He served as a member and past President of the VFW Post No. 4374, a member of the Tin Can Soldiers and just two years ago was the Grand Marshal of the Freehold Memorial Day Parade. Walter was extremely giving and always helpful whether it was devoting his time as a bingo worker at The Manor Rehabilitation Center and the Freehold Senior Center or volunteering for Meals on Wheels. He was actively involved with the Toys for Tots program as well.
Walter was predeceased by parents, Thomas and Celine Reblaub Kowalsky and his sister Paulette Reblaub.
He is survived by his two sons Douglas Kowalsky (Somerset) & Kenneth Kowalsky (Mexico), three daughters Dawn Hawthorne (Jackson), Susan Korth (Los Angeles, CA) and Laura Stevens (Manhattan Beach, Ca), six grandchildren, Michael, Thomas, Alyssa, Danyelle, Aaron and Jessica, as well as three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold. VFW Post No. 4374 will conduct their service during the viewing at 3:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 a.m. The burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd., Wrightstown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The American Cancer Society.
